Brimmer (Martin) is born in Roxbury.
June 8, 1793
The son of Martin and Sarah (Watson) Brimmer, Martin Brimmer graduates from Harvard College, begins his career as a merchant in a store owned by Theodore Lyman Jr., and marries Harriet Wadsworth. Brimmer serves on the Board of Aldermen (1837) and Massachusetts House of Representatives (1838-39), and as mayor (1843-44). He dies at his home in Jamaica Plain on April 25, 1847. John Jay Chapman later describes Brimmer as “a little sweeter by nature and less sure he was right than the true Bostonian is . . .”
